Michelle Stitzlein Guest Speaker at the February Meeting

The February 20th meeting will feature Michelle Stitzlein, a master in creating installations using found material.
In her talk “Creative Reuse Inspired by Nature” Michelle will give a presentation about materials available in the waste stream and how she has utilized them in her own artwork as well as collaborative projects within elementary schools.
She will also show images of art created with found and recycled materials by several inspiring artists viewed on her travels to India, South Africa, Namibia, Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.

The meeting and artist talk, which are free and open to the public, will be held at the Dublin public library, on February 20th, at 7pm.
After a short League’s business meeting, the guest speaker Michelle Stitzlein will start her fascinating presentation.

About Michelle Stitzlein

Michelle S. Stitzlein maintains a studio in a re-purposed, former grange hall in the community of Baltimore, Ohio, and is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art & Design.

Her large scale sculptures are created utilizing found materials and her solo exhibition titled Industrial Nature has traveled nationally including to the Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix, AZ; the Saugatuck Center of the Arts, Saugatuck, MI; the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center, Auburn, NY; the Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA; and the Springfield Museum of Art, Springfield, OH.

Her work is represented in museum and corporate collections such as COSI, Columbus, OH; Domino’s Pizza, Ann Arbor, MI; Erie Insurance, Erie, PA; and the Dayton Main Library, Dayton, OH.

Stitzlein has been an artist-in-residence at Denali National Park, AK, and the Millay Colony of Arts, Austerlitz, NY. She has collaborated with schools across the country and authored books about creating murals and sculptures with recycled plastic bottle caps. Additionally, Stitzlein was awarded two Individual Excellence Grants from the Ohio Arts Council in 2008 and 2017 and the Charley Harper Award from the Environmental Education Council of Ohio in 2019.
