Full Bio: I am a landscape photographer. It is through landscapes that I feel the greatest connection to the fine art of making images. I love deep rich saturated colors, which is not something that is commonly found in nature. I also love the way light, shadow, and tone combine to make a black and white image. I can thank my early training in both still images and motion pictures. There is much photography to appreciate in a motion picture. Photography has been a lifelong interest. Now as a retiree, photography is my passion. When I take pictures in the field, I want my viewer to see what I see and feel what I feel. I am looking for an emotional connection that I want to share with my viewer. I want him or her to stand with me and “walk” into the scene. I use available light in my work. And since landscapes are not too likely to take off and move on me, I have the time to set up my tripod and select from wide angle or telephoto lenses, depending on my subject. My training in digital photography, (I have been an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop), allows me to refine the original image captured digitally into the image that I see. Work at the computer is just as much fun as taking pictures in the field. I am most fortunate to have had several teachers who taught and encouraged me. The best teachers have the ability to explain something in an interesting way. They know to approach you on your level and instill love of what they are teaching. The photography teachers who have inspired me have been informal teachers, experts who have passed on their knowledge and wisdom to a grateful student. I will always be a student of photography. When I work in the field, I always feel the excitement I felt from years ago. Nature always has something to teach. The audience is the ultimate teacher.
