Annual En Plein Air Painting Celebration in Historic Dublin

DUBLIN, OH – On Saturday, June 15th, 2019 the Dublin Area Art League hosted the 16th Annual Paint Out event in Historic Dublin.

35 artists registered to enter the “En Plein Air” (French for “in the open air”) art contest, embracing the challenge to produce a painting in a few hours. Several other artists just came out and painted, without entering the competition. “This has been the highest turnout in the history of the Paint Out. Every corner of you turned you could see a painter at work, that’s the kind of thing that makes my heart smile” said Robie Benve, Paint Out event chair.

Artists arrived between 9:00 AM and noon, and they had until 3:00 PM to find a spot/subject and complete a piece of art depicting Dublin.

Passersby’s are up for a treat on the Annual Paint Out day. People from the community come out and enjoy observing artists at work. Most artists welcome comments and questions, even in a situation when they are pressed with time.

Weather was cloudy all day and turned to heavy rain during the last hour, forcing a fw artists to give up and not turn in their piece for the competition. 32 paintings were turned in, and they are now showcased until 14 July at the Upper Arlington Main Library, where a public reception will be held to celebrate the exhibit and announce the winners on June 19, at 6:30 pm.

This year’s judge is renowned artist Michael McEwan.

McEwan will determine Best of show, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners – cash prizes are $200 (Sponsored by the Dublin Arts Council), $100, $75, and $50 respectively. A $100 Merit award and three $25 honorable mentions as Dick Blick’s gift cards.

The yearly event is hosted by the Dublin Area Art League, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the Arts and empowering the artists. Membership is open to all who are interested in art.

The Historic Dublin Paint Out is partially funded by the Dublin Arts Council though a Community Arts Grant to encourage community engagement, cultivate creativity, and foster life-long learning through the arts, and by Blick Art Materials.

Chair for the organization of the event is Robie Benve.
