About the speaker

Mikelle Hickman-Romine

Mikelle Hickman-Romine is a Columbus, Ohio craft artist.  She is a graduate of Simon’s Rock Early College with an Associate’s Degree earned at age 18. She then left higher education to pursue a course of self instruction.  After reading an article on gourd stitch in 1999, she began to experiment with the technique, eventually pushing its boundaries and combining it with wire work to begin making a unique style of work she calls “fine beadwork.”

Mikelle is also an award winning poet, a member of Ohio Designer Craftsmen, and a Member Artist at Studios On High Gallery in the Short North.  This year, her work has been included in the Dairy Barn Arts Center’s Women of Appalachia Arts Exhibit; Dominion, Studios on High Gallery; State Fairs: Growing American Craft, Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery; 79th Ohio Annual Exhibition, Zanesville Museum of Art;  Ohio State Fair Cox Fine Arts Exhibition; and the 2025 Biennial Juried Exhibition, Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery.
