Painting the Dramatic Sky Light With Acrylics
A two-day workshop – Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm, July 26 and 27, 2025.
With about an hour’s break for lunch each day.

Award-winning artist and DAAL member Robie Benve is teaching a two-day workshop on how to paint the amazing beauty of the sky in different conditions: morning, evening, cloudy, serene, etc.
This workshop will cover:
- Choosing a good subject from photos/images/sketches.
- Creating a strong composition and design.
- Using value and color for a dramatic effect.
- Practice mixing different color temperatures and values.
- Create 3+ small paintings of different sky conditions.
- Have fun while doing it.
Learn to paint skies, clouds, sunsets, sunrise, and other scenes with interesting lighting conditions, including night scenes. Demonstrations, 1-0-1 feedback and guidance to each student, group critiques included.
Media: acrylic (no oils due to allergies).
Skill level: Intermediate and above. Students should have some experience and familiarity with acrylic painting.
Ages: 17+
Min 3 – Max 12 students.
Location: 10 Oakland Park Avenue, Clintonville, Ohio
Supplies included: glazing medium, molding paste, acrylic gel medium, table easels, water sprayer, paper towers, water containers, acrylic gel medium, masking tape, paper plates, some brushes and acrylic colors (in case you are missing some you can use mine).
What to bring:
- Three small canvases or other support, sizes between 5”x7” and 8”x10”
- Painting supplies: acrylic paints, brushes, etc.
- Bring lots of sunset or sunrise images to choose from, printed or on your device.
- Packed lunch.
Provided:
Acrylic glazing medium, molding paste, acrylic gel medium, table easels, water sprayer, paper towers, water containers, masking tape, paper plates, some brushes and acrylic colors (in case you are missing some you can use Robie’s).
