Nicole Zupich

Short Bio: At my core, I am a storyteller, and my art is an extension of those stories – breathing life and color into them in a way words often cannot.

Full Bio: I’m a self-taught artist with an eternal sense of curiosity. I view art as an intricate part of the collective human experience. It’s also therapeutic. It’s about learning to let go and lean into my own authenticity. Oil painting is highly technical and conjures my inner critic. I balance that with other mediums – fluid art (acrylic pouring and resin work) and mixed media abstract art, both of which require me to relinquish the control and the perfectionism and see where it takes me in that moment.

I’m an avid world traveler/backpacker, with eighteen different countries under my belt – which is where I draw much of my inspiration for my landscapes. I love painting in plein air. I’m currently getting into urban sketching and watercolor, which I hope to explore more.

I’m a combat veteran (OEF, 2007-2008) and have a BS in Anthropology from The Ohio State University and a BS in Applied Mathematics from Ohio University. By day, I’m a data engineer where I get to take raw data, blend it with other data, and help to tell its story. I currently live in Galena with my two boys, my husband, and my beloved Bernese Mountain Dog, Louie.

“The role of the artist, after all, is to awaken that which has fallen asleep.” – Kim Krans
