About Cody Heichel
Cody Heichel is an Ohio-based representational painter working in oil and watercolor. His paintings are
created through a fusion of direct observational work and studio practices.
Concerning his paintings, Heichel says: “I strive to visually interpret that which I find to be interesting
about my own daily environment. The subjects I chose to paint may be as impersonal as a puddle on
the side of the road, or as intimate as my parent’s cat, resting beside their wood-burning stove in my
childhood home. They all represent, with equal weight, the sights which cause me to pause, and urge
me to create.”
Heichel is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and the Ohio Watercolor Society. In
2020, he was awarded The Past Presidents Award at the 100th Annual National Watercolor Society
International Juried Exhibition. Other recent awards include Best of Show in the 2020 and 2019 Ohio
Plein Air Society Annual Competition, and Best of Show in the Central Ohio Watercolor Society 2019
Spring Exhibition. In 2017, he was awarded the Greater Columbus Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowship,
and was one of two artists selected for the GCAC’s 2018 Artist Exchange Program in Dresden, Germany,
where he participated in a two-month artist residency.
His work is represented by Brandt-Roberts Galleries in Columbus, Ohio, and Visual Index in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
